Smoothing footage that has been speed up/down

I was wondering what you use to smooth footage that has been speed up or down with Premiere Pro. If I change the speed on my footage it looks okay, but it doesn't look as good as in movies or on TV. Are there any tricks to improve the footage?

Depending on which version of premiere Pro you have all it will do is repeat frames when slowed down or you may be able to 'blend' frames. Either solution is pretty poor by most standards. In fact this is one area where Adobe has fallen behind in their editting tools. The latest version of After Effects has a prety good tool for this but no version of Premiere pro does.

In PPro, you will need to find a plugin to do the job for you. Start by googling 'Twixtor'.

Thank you for the quick reply, Alan.

I have been using Premiere Pro 1.5 for most of my editing and never used After Effects. To be honest it sounds rather unpratical to switch to another program, edit and export a small clip, and then import it back to Premiere Pro again...

... which is pretty much exactly what After Effects is designed to do. lol

Seriously, it is a compositing tool and very useful for a lot of special effects. It's the only Adobe tool that will allow a smooth speed change though. As I said look at plugins for PPro.
