Having completed a wedding video, I go to encode the piece into AVI before performing the DVD authoring. The programme was shot in 16x9 (though I think it was actually 4x3 letterbox, shot on a Panasonic GY500) and captured in a 16x9 project. All the footage is marked at 1.1 pixel aspect ratio. On encoding, the piece appears with letterbox which is fine as that is the desired end result. However any of the clips with effects on them jump to a lower aspect ratio. I've tried using the interpret-footage commands, I've tried re-importing all the clips into a 4x3 project and I'm getting nowhere with it. I've seen the same problem previously with a 16x9 project which was shot and captured in true 16x9 (but can't remember the bloomin' fix).
Does anyone have a clue what's going on and how to fix it?

A few things you may wish to consider:
If the video was shot in a letterbox format, importing to a 16:9 project would result in black areas at the left and right of the image (essentially the video would fill only the center of the screen). If it is not letterboxed, exporting as a 16:9 video should not result in a 4:3 letterbox. This has the effect of reducing the effective resolution and should be avoided.
A pixel aspect ratio of 1.1 is inconsistent with both PAL and NTSC.

Many thanks. I'm guessing from that, as the footage is appearing in the centre of the screen for previews, I need to re-import the footage and clips into a 4x3 project which would maintain the letterbox but fill out the screen to give a widescreen appearance.
I'll see if this remedies the situation...

None of it worked. I had imported the footage correctly, set the correct settings for video rendering and project.
The solution was even more devilishly simple than all that... The export settings once you go through the export > movie menu were set to 1.067. Set to 1.422 to match the other settings and, hey presto, as it were.
