Default Movie Maker clash with Premier 6

Hi,
I've loaded my new XP laptop with Premier 6 and done the compatibility thing (it was bought for Win 9. I can't get audio playback on the time line unless I drag the curser along it and the film is jerky like it's jumping a lot of frames every time the cursor moves. It also seems to export the video in this jerky fashion. Like this it's all pretty useless. Any suggestions? I've got Windows Moviemaker bundled with the machine - should I uninstall it? I've also got Sonic record stuff bundled .
Any advice would be most welcome as I love Premier and can't afford to buy a new editing suite.
thanks
Brendan

Premiere 6.0 will only generally work with DV AVI files. It is likely that you are working with highly compressed files. Either render the timeline or convert the source material by following the advice in the FAQ: http://www.videoforums.co.uk/reviews/faq

Why would Windows Movie Maker have any effect on the usage of another app?
Seems to me like you are setting yourself up to buy a copy of Pro 2, hmmm..?
