Lets hear it for all the tinkerers among us!
I learned (still learning) everthing I know about premier (and every other piece of software/hardware I own) just by fiddling about. Knowledge gained in this manner is, as Marc says, often far more valuable than anything you'll find in the manuals.

just another option for your fade problem from scene to scene...position the needle on the timeline between the two clips you want to fade into each other, then open the timeline menu at the top of the screen and select "apply default transition" make sure neither of the two clips is on a superimpose track as it will be unable to apply the transition. Good luck
