Default Rendering on Adobe premiere 6

Hello all
I'm going to split my earlier question in two for a better chance of an answer! Is it a particular 'thing' with Premiere that after capturing DV, editing it and rendering effects as they are added, the whole programme always needs to be rendered by File>Export>Movie? I'm using a Sony DVCam player and the captured clips always look OK, it's when they've gone through the system they become jerky.
Thanks
Steve

Is this on the timeline? Ubfortunately there was no realtime preview in version 6., so you have to render the video after adding effects to preview smoothly.

With Premiere 6.x isn't it possible to render the timeline by pressing 'Enter' or 'Ctrl+Enter' instead of going through the whole export ordeal? Creates some nifty preview files but its alot easier then exporting all the time ;D

Yes. That's what I'm doing so you've confirmed that programmes do need rendering on Adobe 6. Any ideas about the 'overexposure' problem?
