Default can capture but cant view in project

I have been trying to capture footage from my HI8 sony camera through my capture card into premier 5.1
Premier has recognised my capture card and i can see clips in my capture window, but when it comes to viewing them in the actual project they come up with just a green screen and maybe sometimes jerks a little, but definatley no image can be seen.
It may be down to my computer being too rubbish and i plan to upgrade it, but i want to ask if there may be another reason that anyone knows about.
My specs are:

6GB Hard drive
156 MB RAM
P3 550 GHZ
Avermedia DVDeasy-maker gold capture card
