Check that you have the whole composition selected.

I know you said that yur composition is longer but is it that or is it your footage which is longer? When you created your new composition did you specify the longer time?

go the edit, prefences... hold down shift when clicking prefances.. go to 'secret' in the drop down menu and set a low value like 1 on the purge frame tab...
this works for me whenever the rendering plays up in AE..

Okay, this may not be of any help and I apologise in advance if that's the case, but I use Discreet's Combustion compositing tool and all the rendering (in fact all the workflow) is done to memory. I am wondering if that's the same in AE and whether or not you have enough memory to render your project?
Could you select a different portion of the project and attempt to render? It probably won't render it all but if it stops at a different point (say 20 seconds) then that would indicate to me it's kind of a memory type problem

All your Comp settings etc might be set correct but look up at the top of the time line, maybe you have that little Grey bar not pulled all the way along. That tells the program how much of the comp you want rendered even though the actual length of the comp is longer.
I know that got me once!
