Yes using the S-video connection would be better but if the original video was shot on an Video 8 camcorder (using composite video) then it would not offer any improvement.

So running it through the mini DV using S-video as DV AVI will produce as high a quality transfer as the Canopus then is that correct? Yes that is correct.
