[quote=Guerillavidey;89477]Hi Tim, thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it.
Ok, the file that I want to work with is an avi,
I'm a little (read a lot) confused.
1. where/how can i check the codecs and resolution of the file?
2. I dont know how to do this
3. I think that I can do this ok
4. Is it - file, render as..?
Sorry for bothering you with some more questions, I am muddling my way through vegas but really dont have much knowledge of it.
Cheers again.

1. Google & download a free program called GSpot. Open your video files in it and it will tell you all sorts of useful info - codec being part of it.
2. File | Project Properties
3. As you indicated before, you "highlighted" a section. You set in and out points on the timeline by one of many means.
4. Yes

Yes and no. You need to go through the method above (or a similar one). In practice, if the settings are the same throughout (ie souce, project and output)
Vegas doesn't actually have to do very much-it's just copying bytes and the words "No Recompression Required" appear in the preview window when rendering - and it's very quick.
