I like the rode for its built in sound suspension, although a little bulky. i'm not an audio "geek" but the sound it picks up through my sony mv300 headphones is very clear, it is also a good directional mic. For me, it's also better camera mounted, because of the shorter cable.

The ATR25 needs a suspension system to get anything out of it when attached to the camera, although it is good on the boom. I've found it also to be clear sound, but the rode just does it for me because it's a built up all in one unit when i'm on the go.

Either way, both mics are good enough to use and they will be better than any onboard mic. the ATR is stereo, I think the rode is mono, which is better for me, I don't particularly need stereo because I mix my own soundtracks with different sounds, so the dialog from the rode just gets stuck in center channel and adobe audition does the rest.

If I get chance, I'll knock up some controlled test samples of both mics and stick em on the net for you to download, but give me a couple of days to do that as I'll need to research the best sounds to test.
