These are just ideas. It could be possible that your pc is struggling to playback the timeline in real time, especially when it gets to transitions and files other than video that need converting on the fly to maintain playback.

Did you add the audio before the edit or after?

Is it possible that you split the audio when you were making edits to the video?

Try exporting a section and see if it does it in the finished clip.
