HDV (HD is somethnig pro and better) can be captured like dv, so long as your editor / s ware can handle HDV.

HDV uses compression across frames, the difference but DV compresses each frame individually. This means compression is much more efficient, hence better quality in less space.

HDV is actually a lower rate than DV.

Soundwise dv has the better spec but the results in practice are the same.

You can use the same tapes.
