Komatoast is right. It's just a long labourious job I'm afraid.
The only thing I would add is that if you have the tool and/or enough money, you can buy a plugin (from
www.trapcode.com) for After Effects that will automatically generate keyframes in time to music. I have a feeling that the new v7 might have some equivalent stuff built in too but can't be sure.
Not sure if it would help with your cuts but it seems at least half way relevant so I thought I'd mention it.
