I know that this is the last thing in the world that you want to hear, it was for most of us before we made "the switch".

But the best option is to get a Mac.

And the reason i say this is that the new iLife '06 (free with every mac) contains iMovie HD. Once, again Steve Jobbs and his boys are a step ahead of the game and know that soon, all Christenings, birthday parties and weddings will be shot on HD, especially now that 1080i HD is becoming less expensive. As you might guess, iMovie HD's native format mates beautifully with your Hi-Def camcorder.

I have never looked back since I bought my first MAc, and I still use it, 5 years later.

If you are worried about the pric-iness of such an investment, I would recommend forking out US$800 to get a G4 MacMini - plenty enough to handle what you're looking for and you can hookup your hard drives, your monitor, your keyboard, your mouse and everything that was formerly attached to your edit station, following which, I recommend depositing your former desktop into the "PC recepticle".
