Default Budget video-cam' Microphones?

My cameras microphone is totally knackered, it records but with all sorts of intermittent crackles and noise (most likely due to it getting the brunt of a salt-water splash the other day)

so I'm looking for an external microphone, The camera is a Panasonic NV-GS 75, it's got a normal jack-socket input for a mic' and an accessory shoe, (not a hot one though)

I'm not after crystal clear top-notch sound, just a replacement for the internal one.

So, would this be OK?

or are budget mic's not worth bothering with at all?

if that one's a bad idea, are there any suggestions?
