I'm sure you're right. But I am also equally sure that the more adventurous mind will strive to improve, create and expand their footage into something better than they shot originally. It's the same as going through a batch of photographs and chucking some away so the next person sees only the best. That is editing too of course.
A strange debate to prompt on a forum devoted to editing, but you will no doubt be seeing some replies.
Note also that by only shooting some scenes as opposed to others, you are editing by default as well. The role of an editor takes many forms.
