Do your actors move around alot in your film? You may have provided a possible but time consuming answer to your question when you talked about cutting images out of photoshop. One way would be to draw a mask shape around the actor or actors and get AE to put a black mask around the outside so you could then overlay that onto a new video scene. Again, if theres a lot of movement it will take a long time to do it in AE.
