Please don't get the impression that Videoforums exists in order to shoot down ideas and projects. On the contrary, I understand it's something the moderators want to encourage!

Purely from my point of view, I'm slowly getting tired of the way some firms/people/producers in the glamour industry use others indiscriminately. I'm not saying that "Glamour&Entertainment" are dishonest or in any way acting unfairly, it's just that so many people at the bottom or entry levels of adult television end up working for little or nothing, that I feel I should point out the pitfalls to the unwary.

In my opinion: No camera(wo)man should ever work for nothing, unless it's for friends or a private project. Either the producer has the confidence to finance his production properly, or he hasn't. I'm afraid this "work for us and if you're any good we might pay you" deal doesn't sound fair to me. I'm not saying that this is dishonest, just not professional. It also means that a good cameraman has to hope that the others are up to his standard otherwise nobody gets paid.

Getting a foot in the door is one thing, being used is another. The old saying "only a fool works for nothing and many a fool does" is just as true in the video industry as elsewhere. If the wanabee cameraman uses this as a chance to get some experience, fine. I just feel that working, with equipment, on a project where you might get paid, or might not, is a sign of being desperate to work, anywhere.

There is also a "casting" scam doing the rounds and I'm just a bit nervous that this is a variation on the theme. I have absolutely no proof of this and hope that I'm being over-suspicious, but as none of us know "Glamour&Entertainment" personally, I think we're right to be very cautious. I'm glad that Martin has understood that we're not shooting down everyone who comes onto the site, in fact, the opposite, we'd like to encourage people. Just that some of us, through experience, have had our fingers burnt and don't want others to get the same.

I'm the first to encourage newcomers and jump on board new and start-up projects, I just like to know what I'm getting into and think that others should do the same.
Nothin' personal.
