Default Problem: Importing footage from DVD

Hello,

When I capture footage to Premiere directly from my camcorder using DV interface, I have no problems at all with the playback or editing of the footage. My sound and video are perfect. HOWEVER, when I take a DVD that I want to grab footage from and do either of the following things:

1. Rename .VOB to .MPG
-OR-
2. Use encoder to convert from DVD to MPEG or AVI

... I have problems...

When I import the newly created file (from either of the 2 methods above) and add it to my timeline. If I play back the file in the project window, I get no sound. If I drag the file to the timeline and playback, the video footage starts jumping around in the monitor window while the audio plays steady. Or the video and audio starts to drift from each other within about 3 seconds into the timeline. This only seems to happen on stuff I try to rip from a dvd. Has anyone had this problem before? What's the solution?

Thanks,
LTrain
