Default Capturing Analogue 8mm Video onto a PC for editing

I currently have a Samsung VP-M50 8mm Video Camera and want to capture all my old video onto the computer so I can edit it, and ultimately create a DVD. I would ideally like to capture the video very high quality (avi?) so I can edit it easily. When looking around for the best way to do this I found Pinnacle Studio MovieBox Deluxe and AV/DV Deluxe (also from Pinnacle). One used software codecs and the other used hardware codecs. I was wondering which was generally the best as Analgoue capture is the main use for the device. I would be happy to edit the video in Pinnacle Studio 9 PLUS, which I personally find to be an excellent (although slightly unstable) package.

Any ideas are most appreciated - Thanks
RiW
