Default codec problem with ulead video studio 7

Installed ADS Instant dvd2 - Captures video with no problem. Try to open Ulead video studio 7 to edit and burn to DVD - Can't.??
Get Splash screen and thrown back to desktop.
ADS says this is a Ulead problem.
Ulead tech spt tells me it's a Codec Clash problem. Assuming they know what they're talking about, I removed / disabled all the codecs other than Microsoft's. (returned them with this didn't work)
Still can't open the program. Checking their FAQ's, I see where there supposedly is a patch/upgrade called UVSPATCHADS_INSTANTDVD@.exe, but as luck would have it I can't get into that site (cannot find server).
Appreciate if anyone can point me in the right direction - getting desperate. Thanks in advance
