I can think of two (legit) places to get real backgrounds and footage for free (sort of) and I mean the stuff you normally have to pay 100s of pounds/dollars for.

I find that cover disks invariably carry a few each month and also disks that accompany books usually carry some as well. Of course you don't get to take your pick this way.
