pretty much any external mic will cut out the camera motor noise. You could spend as little as about £30 at Jessops and get a cheap external mic for a camcorder. That'll do it if motor noise is your main consideration. better to spend a bit more though and get somethign more worthwhile.

Alternatively, rather than a minidisc. A bundle of MP3 players have record ability. you might already have one.
